PARKERSBURG — A four-run third was more than enough for winning pitcher Kylie Conley here on a cold Friday evening at Don Godbey Fields as host Parkersburg South topped rival Parkersburg, 9-1, in six innings as the right-hander allowed just four hits versus her former team in a complete game effort.
Big Red leadoff hitter Brynn Frye did most of the damage for first-year head coach Erica Cameron, who watched her shortstop go 2 for 3 with a run-scoring three-bagger in the top of the fifth.
Conley allowed a single in the fourth to first baseman Krista Durkin, who hit a lined shot at the ex-Big Reds’ face for the first out in the sixth. PHS cleanup hitter and catcher Gabby Dennis had a leadoff single to center in the second while Frye had the only other hit with an infield single to shortstop in the third.
“The way it was supposed to be last night we were supposed to play over there and that’s actually her birthday,” admitted South boss Tim Burch.
“Last night was her birthday and we were going to let her pitch on her birthday against her old team, but it was determined months ago.”

Losing pitcher Camella Cooper, who walked seven and had a pair of punchouts, was victimized by a trio of errors that led to five unearned runs.
PSHS, which improved to 10-5 and returns to action at 5 p.m. Monday at PHS, left a pair of runners on base in each of the first two frames.
Coach Burch’s squad sent nine batters to the plate in the third and it was freshman Annie Shelton’s single that went off the third-base bag for an infield single that got the big inning started.
Following a free pass to Conley and a four-pitch base on balls to cleanup hitter Brooklin Whitehead the bases were loaded for Ali Marcum, but a throwing error opened the gates. Jaiden Vargas followed with an RBI walk before Payten Mackey, who joined Shelton with two hits, had a sacrifice fly to center. Shy Hays’ RBI sac fly to left made it 4-0.
Cooper retired six straight from the end of the third until two outs in the fifth, but Mackey got things going with a single to center. Instead of being out of the inning, PHS found itself down 5-0 after Hays reached on an outfield error. No. 9 hitter Brylee Hatcher also reached on an outfield error and Conley had a 7-0 cushion after Shelton delivered an RBI double.

Big Red No. 9 hitter Danica Coffman drew a two-out walk in the fifth and scored on Frye’s shot to the right-center field fence.
Whitehead singled in the sixth and later scored on an error while Marcum’s run ended the affair via the mercy rule when she crossed after walking thanks to Mackey’s second sac fly.
“I tell them four aspects to the game, hitting, pitching, base running and defense and we’ve been doing all of that,” added coach Burch. “Coming into tonight we’ve been averaging seven runs a game. We’re right where we need to be.
“I’ve told everybody we’ve got a potent lineup from one to nine. Somebody is going to get you and I have confidence in these kids. The message is to keep playing hard and playing for each other and playing good defense and we’re pitching really well. We got three really good pitchers. We have a really good pitching staff and we’re rotating them.”
The Big Reds slipped to 1-5 and play at 1 p.m Saturday at Spring Valley.
