Everton exploring Rohl deal
Everton are exploring a move Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl ahead of tonight's deadline, but would face a race against time to get a deal over the line.
The Merseyside have been looking to improve their midfield options before the close of the window and recently saw an approach rejected for West Ham United's Tomas Soucek.
There has been interest in academy graduate Harrison Armstrong from the Championship, who would likely be granted a loan move elsewhere should this deal go through, while stalwart Idrissa Gueye is set to feature in December’s AFCON with Senegal.
Rohl has been on Everton’s radar for around 12 months, with the club having expressed an interest in signing him last January.
The 23-year-old competed for Germany at this summer’s Under-21 European Championship and is held in high regard as a mobile, attack-minded midfielder capable of playing as a No 8 or 10.
Elsewhere, Youssef Chermiti is expected to complete his move to Rangers today.
The deal for the 21-year-old striker comprises an initial fee of around £8million, plus £2m in add-ons. The package also includes a significant sell-on clause based on the profit Rangers make on any future transfer.

Now we pause for the international break
Just as we were building some momentum, Europe's major leagues grind to a half for the first international break of the season.
But it is an important one as this break is populated by World Cup qualifiers across the planet.
England face Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday before travelling to face Serbia on Tuesday.
As co-hosts, the USMNT have automatically qualified, so they have a pair of friendlies; they face South Korea on Saturday then Japan on Tuesday.

Liverpool lead the way through three
There is no better way to start a title defence than with three wins. And Liverpool have not yet actually shown anything close to their best!
They are the only team with a 100 per cent record through the first three games of the season, and Chelsea are the only other unbeaten side.
Five teams have picked up two wins and, just below the teams in that photo, Manchester United are above Manchester City. Heady days at Old Trafford...

The champions kept rolling yesterday
The weekend's headliner came at Anfield yesterday as Liverpool hosted Arsenal.
The visitors lost William Saliba within a few minutes of kick-off, but started strongly against the champions. They weren't able to make their first-half pressure count and they were punished by a moment of genuis.
Dominik Szoboszlai hammered a free kick past David Raya from 30 yards and that was enough to extend Liverpool's 100 per cent start to the campaign.
Earlier in the day, Brighton staged a second-half comeback to beat Manchester City and West Ham eased the pressure on Graham Potter with a convincing win away to Nottingham Forest.
In the final match of the day, Crystal Palace stunned Aston Villa on the road with a superb 3-0 win.

Another busy week in the Premier League
No Monday Night Football this evening, so we know exactly where we stand with three weeks down in the 2025-26 Premier League season.
We'll split our weekend breakdown in two, starting with Saturday's six matches.
Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start with a win against Fulham, after 18-year-old Josh King had his first top-flight goal very controversially ruled out.
Manchester United needed Fergie Time to get past Burnley as Sunderland staged a similarly dramatic comeback to beat Brentford.
On the road, Bournemouth were too good for Tottenham and Everton edged out Wolves. And then one of the most forgettable matches in Premier League history ended goalless between Leeds and Newcastle.

Transfer window rules: Squad lists, homegrown players and more
The Premier League has strict rules about the number and type of players that its teams can submit as part of their official squad list for the upcoming season.
Once the deadline closes, clubs will submit a 25-player squad list. From that number, a minimum of eight players must meet the league’s ‘home grown player’ criteria.
A player qualifies as homegrown if they have been registered with an English of Welsh club for three full seasons before their 21st birthday.
Under-21 players at any Premier League club do not need to be registered in the 25-man squad and can play at any time in the season for their team.

What time is the transfer deadline?
A slightly different time today compared to previous years. We have been used to a midnight — or 11pm — deadline recently, but you won't need to wait up this evening.
It is the more civilised time of 7pm (BST) this time around and that has been agreed in Italy, Germany and France. Clubs in Spain have an extra couple of hours to do their business as the window shuts at 11:59pm (CET) over there.
